Vale Steve Mathews
27 June 1949 – 6 June 2020
Remembered Forever
R.I.P Steve "One Tee" Mathews
Steve suffered a number of health concerns in recent years and many hospital visitations especially in the last 2 years. Steve shared (with Gordy & Kellogs) the early developing TOTT years from 2014 until Gordy’s passing in 2016. For much of the following years Steve rarely played due to ill health but contributed every Tuesday for Registration and Presentations, where he exhibited the flair, uniqueness and personality TOTTs has strived to emulate and improve upon. Steve’s involvement in running on course barbecues (where the Steve burger was a featured request) not only for TOTTs but also for the club on special days (Good Friday appeal, Pennant competition, Organizing sponsor support of the annual Pro-Am events , Senior Pennant Gold team Manager, and many other general Sandhurst golfing activities) became legendary. TOTTs on Tour (to Maroochydore) will forever be remembered as a Steve “One Tee” initiative where his collaboration with Barry Schmidt makes it a “must do” adventure for the many golfing sun seekers during the month of August each year. With Ron Gascoigne, Gordy and Kellogs, Steve contributed to the development and introduction of the TOTT web page/.
There is much more to Steve’s past pre-Sandhurst (long standing VFA senior umpire, Mentone & Hallam cricketer (with John Heathcote, Don Curtain) and sport of any type including supporting the Brisbane Bears/Lions in the AFL.
Steve was 70 years of age and is survived by Nola and 4 children (Travis & Shondell, and twins Blake & Stephanie).
